Your Phone is Listening to Your Every Word (And it's Creepy)

There's an age-old conspiracy theory that just won't rest. No, not the Illuminati (that's no conspiracy!)

A firm belief among many is that your phone is listening to your every word and watching you through your phone's camera.

And whilst that sounds barking mad, it turns out that's the only explanation for Facebook being a smart cookie with their phenomenal advertisement technology.

Luckily, it's not all as sinister as it sounds though (as far as we know) and your smartphone's microphone only listens in for audio signals in TV ads and programmes, in order to monitor your TV viewing.

So whilst your private conversation with the neighbour's wife may be kept just that - private - your phone often connects your TV viewing data with places you visit or the movies you go see.

According to a recent report from The New York Times, over 250 apps available in Google Play - ranging from games to apps aimed at children - use software from a company called Alphonso to obtain this valuable data for ad revenue.

And there you were, worried about the New World Order...
