All You Need to Know: Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+

Aug 8, 2019

It's that time of the year when new smartphones start dropping out of the sky...

Samsung is leading the way, following the release of two new flagship phones.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ were unveiled at last night's (7 August) highly-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event

The tech giant has billed the new devices as the "world’s most powerful" smartphones.

So what's new?

Whilst we'd love to scream about all the exciting new features, the truth is the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ don't really add anything new to the table.

If anything, we're more excited about the relaunch of the Galaxy Fold in the weeks ahead. But let's dissect the Note 10 and Note 10+ in more detail (if we must)...

New camera features

If you’ve used the Galaxy S10 or S10+, you’ll find that the Galaxy Note 10’s camera isn’t an exciting upgrade over those phones. It’s using the same combination of a 16MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP regular lens and a 12MP telephoto lens.

When it comes to video, Samsung has added a Live Focus Video feature which offers depth-of-field enhancements to blur the background and let you focus on your main subject.

Meanwhile, a new Night Mode feature to the front camera is perfect for capturing selfies under dim lighting.

Samsung has also introduced a new augmented reality doodle feature which lets you draw silly faces on top of a person, and a 3D scanner to capture objects you might later print on a 3D printer.

Zoom-in microphone

A new zoom-in mic will help amplify the audio to whoever or whatever is in the frame.

The zoom-in microphone feature reduces background noise and zooms in on your subject all on its own.

It's significantly more intelligent than interview mode, and will save you waving your phone around to manually ensure that it's pointing in the right direction at all times.

Super fast charging

Gone are the days of slow charging. Samsung has rolled out Superfast Charge technology that will give life to your phone in just 30 minutes.

5G-ready

It's important to prepare for the future, and while the Note 10 fails on that front, the Note 10+ is 5G compatible.

No Headphone Jack

Say goodbye to the 3.5mm headphone jack. Samsung just doesn't think it's needed anymore.

The removal of the headphone jack has ensured the device oozes a slim edge design.

No microSD card slot on the Note 10

Samsung also got rid of the microSD card slot for the Note 10. The Note 10+ will, however, still accept whatever card you throw at it.

Again, the reason for the change seems to be a space-saving mission that also helps keep the smaller Note 10 lighter and thinner.

Differences between Note 10 and Note 10+

Screen size: 6.3-inch versus 6.8-inch
Device size and weight: The Note 10 Plus is significantly larger and heavier
AR camera: The Note 10 Plus adds a fourth camera, for AR video and drawing
Battery capacity: 3,500 mAh versus 4,300 mAh
Storage: 256GB for Note 10, 256 or 512GB for Plus
RAM: 8GB versus 12GB
microSD card slot: Not on the Note 10, but it is on the Note 10 Plus

Prices

Galaxy Note 10: Prices beginning at £899

Galaxy Note 10+: Prices beginning at £999
