WhatsApp launches digital payment service
Jun 16, 2020
You will soon be able to send money and make payments over WhatsApp.
The Facebook-owned messaging service has launched a brand new in-app digital payment feature in Brazil.
The strategic move comes as part of Facebook's plans to push towards more e-commerce.
While it may be a while before UK users will be able to reap the benefits, WhatsApp users in Brazil can now transfer money to one another for free or make purchases from small businesses.
WhatsApp have confirmed that the payment service is completely free for consumers, however, businesses will pay a 3.99% processing fee to receive payments.
Users must use a six-digit PIN or fingerprint unlock to authorise payments.
There's no news yet on when the service will roll out globally.
